This Caribbean island was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. He named her Anguilla, probably because of its form. Colonized in 1650 by the British, it was in fact essentially inhabited by pirates and buccaneers. Maximum altitude is 65 m above sea level. Dog Island et Prickly Pear are unpopulated island with nice coral reefs and sandy beaches. Anguilla was part of the crown Saint Christopher – Nevis – Anguilla until 1967.
